Tools Guide

The Tools Guide explains how to use D2R Loot Goblin features such as run timers, favorites, and global search. It is a practical walkthrough for players who want to get more value from the site while actively playing.

Run Timer

Open Run Timer

The Run Timer lets you track your farming sessions run by run — how long each run took, what dropped, and how many you completed in a session. It's useful for measuring efficiency, comparing areas, and keeping a record of notable drops.

Start a session

Enter your character name and start the timer. Each run is tracked individually with a time stamp.

Log loot drops

Mark notable drops during a run — uniques, runes, charms, or anything you want to remember finding.

Export results

Export your session as plain text or a CSV file for sharing, archiving, or further analysis.

Run Timer Tips

  • →Keep the Run Timer open in the background, on a second monitor, or on a mobile while you play for speed and ease.
  • →Use the loot log after you stop the run for more accurate timing — log what dropped without adding time to your run.
  • →The session summary shows your average run time and total drops — useful for comparing farming areas or swapping gear to see if your speed improves or slows.
  • →Export to CSV if you want to track statistics over time or share your farming results with others.
  • →Run times don't reset on page refresh — your session is saved until you explicitly clear it.

Area Levels

Open Area Levels

The Area Levels reference lists every zone's area level (alvl) across Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. Area level sets the monster level, the drop level for items, and gambling odds — so it's the key to knowing where a specific base item can spawn.

Tied to Runeword Bases

Sockets on a base item depend on its item level (ilvl), which is tied to the area level where it drops. In the Runeword Bases tool, each base item lists its Larzuk socket caps across ilvl bands (1–25, 26–40, 41+). Next to each band, a "Where can I find this?" link jumps straight into Area Levels, pre-filtered to the zones that can drop a base in that ilvl range.

  • →Open a base item in Runeword Bases to see its socket caps per ilvl band, then click "Where can I find this?" to see the matching farming zones.
  • →Use the Area Level quick-filters (≤25, ≥26, ≥41) to narrow the table to zones that can drop a base with the socket count you need.
  • →When a filter is active, difficulty cells that don't qualify show an ✕ — so you can instantly see which difficulty actually drops your target item level.
  • →Click any column header to sort by Normal, Nightmare, or Hell to plan farming routes across difficulties.

Example: Spirit in a Broad Sword

At ladder reset, Spirit is one of the first runewords most players chase — it only needs Tal, Thul, Ort, Amn and a 4-socket sword. A Crystal Sword or Broad Sword found early seems like a perfect base, but there's a catch: Larzuk's socket quest awards sockets based on the item's ilvl, and a base found in a low-level zone won't be eligible for 4 sockets.

Open the base in Runeword Bases and check the ilvl socket bands. A Broad Sword has a max of 4 sockets, so any base found at ilvl 26+ will get 4 sockets from Larzuk — simple. A Crystal Sword is different: its max is 6 sockets, which means ilvl 26–40 gives 4 sockets from Larzuk (perfect for Spirit), but ilvl 41+ gives 6 sockets — too many for Spirit. So for a Crystal Sword, you must farm a zone with area level 26–40, not higher.

Once you know the required ilvl band, click the "Where can I find this?" link next to it to jump into Area Levels, pre-filtered to the zones that actually drop a base in that range. Farm the right zone, and Larzuk will give you exactly the socket count you need.

  • →Spirit needs exactly 4 sockets — check the base's max sockets and ilvl bands in Runeword Bases before spending your Larzuk quest.
  • →Broad Sword (max 4 sockets): farm any zone with area level 26+ — Larzuk gives 4 sockets.
  • →Crystal Sword (max 6 sockets): farm a zone with area level 26–40 — Larzuk gives 4. A 41+ zone gives 6 sockets, which won't work for Spirit.
  • →This same logic applies to any runeword base: check the socket requirement, find the matching ilvl band, then verify your farming zone in Area Levels.

Favorites

Open Favorites

Favorites is a personal bookmark system built into Loot Goblin. Star any item, runeword, or reference from any page and it will show up in your Favorites list for fast retrieval later.

What can be favorited?

  • Unique Items — any unique across all item types and tiers
  • Set Items — individual set pieces
  • Runewords — any runeword from the Runeword Finder
  • Base Items — bases from the Runeword Bases tool
  • Crafted Items — individual recipe entries from the Crafting page
  • Cube Recipes — any recipe from the Cube Recipes page

How to use Favorites effectively

  • →Star upgrade targets while gearing so you can quickly pull them up during a trade.
  • →Favorite key runewords for your build so you can check rune combos at a glance.
  • →Save cube recipes and crafting recipes you reference often — especially upgrade chains or crafts you run frequently.
  • →Favorites are stored locally in your browser — they persist across sessions on the same device, but will be removed if you clear your browser cache or local storage.

Global Search

The Global Search bar sits in the top navigation bar on every page — right next to the menu and home buttons. It indexes the entire site in one place, so you can jump straight to any item or reference without clicking through menus. Just click the bar, start typing, and pick a result to navigate instantly.

How it works

  • →Click or focus the search bar in the top navigation to load the index, then start typing.
  • →Results are grouped by section (Runewords, Uniques, Sets, etc.) and ranked by relevance — exact name matches first.
  • →Use the up and down arrow keys to move through results, and Enter to jump straight to the selected item or tool.
  • →Type a runeword name plus a base — like "grief pb" or "cta flail" — and Search recognizes the paired intent, returning both the runeword and matching base.
  • →Adding "base" or "bases" after a runeword name jumps you to that runeword's recommended bases list.

What gets searched

  • Runewords — name, runes, sockets, item type, and stats
  • Unique Items — name, tier, base item, and stats
  • Set Items — individual pieces and full sets
  • Runes — name, drop location, and upgrade chain
  • Runeword Bases — name, category, tier, and sockets
  • Cube Recipes & Crafting Recipes — name, category, and ingredients
  • Breakpoints — all classes (FCR, FHR, FBR, IAS, FRW)
  • Guides — key articles and section anchors

Common Aliases

Search understands common D2R abbreviations. Type the short form and it expands automatically — both the abbreviation and the full name are matched, so either one works.
